A Flexible Investment Approach
In the Belgian market, we offer Branch 23 life insurance contracts and, to companies and other legal entities, Branch 6 capitalisation contracts. We offer both products from our Luxembourg office and from our Belgian branch in Brussels.
Branch 23 Life Insurance Contract
The Branch 23 life insurance contract is a widely used investment solution in Belgium, typically offered by financial institutions and insurance brokers. It enables policyholders to invest their premiums into underlying investment funds managed by the life insurance company.
At Utmost, our Branch 23 product—available to Belgian residents via Luxembourg—offers enhanced flexibility through the option of a dedicated fund. This allows a discretionary asset manager to manage the investment portfolio according to the policyholder’s chosen investment profile, which can be adjusted at any time. This structure provides broad diversification opportunities and, under certain conditions, access to non-traditional assets such as private equity.
From a tax perspective, assets managed within a Branch 23 contract benefit from alternative taxation, which can be more favourable than holding investments in a securities account. This makes our solution particularly attractive for medium- to long-term investment strategies, giving asset managers greater freedom to optimise portfolios without tax constraints.
In addition to its investment advantages, the Branch 23 contract is a powerful tool for wealth and inheritance planning. Belgian legislation allows for highly customisable asset structuring, tailored to the policyholder’s individual wishes. As a result, our product often plays a central role in the financial planning of our Belgian clients.
Our life insurance contracts also offer limited protection against creditors, and in most cases, are fully portable should the policyholder relocate internationally—subject to any necessary adjustments based on our cross-border expertise.
Branch 6 Capitalisation Contract
Alongside our life insurance solutions, we offer a Branch 6 capitalisation contract designed specifically for Belgian companies and legal entities. This contract enables the entity to diversify its underlying assets in a similar way to a Branch 23 policy, helping to mitigate financial risk.
The Branch 6 structure operates within a neutral and fiscally unified legal framework, significantly simplifying administration for the company or legal entity.
Both our Branch 23 and Branch 6 contracts benefit from Luxembourg’s robust investor protection regime, safeguarding policyholders in the event of insolvency of the insurer or the custodian bank. Additionally, these contracts can be used as collateral, offering further financial flexibility.
